
Belarus has proposed a trilateral partnership with Zimbabwe and Mozambique to construct a seaport on the southeastern coast of Africa, in a move aimed at strengthening regional trade and positioning Zimbabwe as a logistics hub in Southern Africa.
Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said the initiative was a huge opportunity” for the three nations and emphasised the strategic importance of securing a foothold on the southeastern coast of Africa.

He said the project should be supported by the restoration of railway links to enhance regional connectivity and facilitate trade flows, adding that Zimbabwe could play a central role as a regional trade hub once infrastructure is aligned. President Lukashenko said Belarus and Zimbabwe enjoyed excellent relations” and stressed the need to implement agreed roadmaps to ensure tangible economic outcomes.
He said parliamentarians had a critical role in overseeing bilateral agreements to guarantee accountability and progress.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to increasing trade volumes to over US$100 million in the coming years, reflecting growing economic cooperation between the two countries.
Zimbabwe Senate Mabel Chinomona expressed gratitude for the continued engagement and the expanding partnership, while President Lukashenko called for strengthened parliamentary cooperation, further cementing what officials described as strong and strategic ties between the two nations.
